Mozambican Women's Day
It's International Women's Day! the United Nations said we should love women and there should be holiday to do it, so apparently that's today. I woke up to neatly dressed schoolkids singing under my bedroom window on their way to the parade. women lined up in front of the military academy to leave flowers at a statue in the yard, and everyone was wearing their very best. kids were selling popcorn and ices and dates and donuts and everyone has the day off.
the universal response after i show them the photo i've taken of them, no matter how old they are, is loud big-open-mouthed laughter. i don't really know why that is, but i like it.
